Tonight’s Mueller Bombshell Just Caught The White House Completely Off Guard!

Sam Clovis has been in the news a lot lately, much more than he or his boss would like.  As President Trump’s senior adviser to the United States Department of Agriculture, the former campaign co-chair kept a low profile by design.
That changed Monday when special counsel Robert Mueller unsealed the guilty plea of Trump campaign foreign policy advisor George Papadopoulos.  In it, the statement of guilt references emails between Papadopoulos and unnamed senior campaign officials outlining his plan to meet with Russian sources to receive dirt on Hillary Clinton.  The emails show these senior Trump campaign officers had full knowledge of Papadopoulos’ machinations with Russia, even approving trips to Europe to meet with Russian officials.
One of those senior campaign officials in the email threads with Papadopoulos has since been identified as Clovis, and it completely destroys team Trump’s long-held talking point defense, that there was no evidence of collusion between the campaign and Russia.
Uncovering Clovis’ role in the Papadopoulos scandal has proven so damaging that he was forced to withdraw his nomination as Trump’s next Undersecretary of the Department of Agriculture, just days before his scheduled confirmation hearings.
But that’s not the only bad press Clovis received today. We learned late Thursday that he testified in secret before the grand jury as part of Robert Mueller’s investigation.  Even worse, The White House had no clue.  They learned from the media, just like the rest of us.
ABC News reported late Thursday that:
A White House source familiar with the investigation tells ABC News “the White House was surprised to learn Mr. Clovis had been contacted by the Special Counsel’s office as part of their separate probe of Mr. Papadopoulos’ activities.”
Clovis has been a controversial figure since he joined the Trump campaign in 2016.  But it appears his 15 minutes of fame are coming to an end.
